Leading with vulnerability in the past was thought to be weak and negative. However, Sport NZ has released an article showing how coaches who are vulnerable not only benefit themselves but their athletes. Being open and having the ability to admit mistakes is fundamental to fostering supportive learning environments within the team as well as positive experiences for the athletes. More specifically, coaches who model vulnerability encourage their athletes to open up, presenting coaches with the opportunity to offer advice and clarity and help boost the athlete's confidence. Coaches may also establish strong relationships with their athletes due to having common values within the team.
